get_byte/1/2, put_byte/1/2, peek_byte/1/2 are not available.

As workaround open the stream as ascii stream and use put_char/1/1, put_byte/1/2, peek_byte/1/2, converting characters to codes.

Example:

my_put_byte(Stream,Code) :-
	char_code(Char,Code), put_char(Stream,Char).
